A few weeks ago I came out to my family ...
About my magic.

I sat across from my very scientific parent and her very scientific partner in a café in Berkeley, California.
"Plants can't have consciousness. I've dissected them and there is no scientific way that could exist."
Was how our conversation started.
I deeply love my family.
Yet my native language isn't calculus or biology.
Mine is more like magical dragons and unicorns.
6 years ago I began to experience strong electrical signals in my brain - like lightning.
It happens when a client has aligned with their destiny.
It helps me know how to help them bring it to the world.
It's a badass superpower.
(Also a little tender to admit).
And not owning who I am was getting in the way of my success.
It felt like I was hiding something.
More on this in one moment ...
But first, quick sidenote, this is why I teach the JOY course.
Not only is it juicy AF. But the only reason I know about my superpower ... is through this work.

Back to the story ...
My parent and step-parent squirmed in their coffeeshop chairs as I told them about my gift, trying so deeply to love me.
After an uncomfortable pause, I heard ...
"It could be explained by science. You have a strong emotion and that leads to an electrical impulse in the brain."
It was my stepparent.
We'd found common ground.
Where science and magic met.
She continued ...
"It's like people having a psychotic episode, it's real - for them, but it's just happening in their own mind."
We had lost common ground. 🤣
When I feel my gift, I trust a flow of something beyond myself and am connected to something much greater than my mind.
Other dimensions don't exist for them. They do for me.
In their world, there are no unseen realms. While I play in this reality quite a bit.
Yet, it didn't seem important at that moment.
We did a lovely hike in Redwood park in Oakland, talked about Pilates and land acknowledgments. We saw quail babies and listened to bird calls.
We appreciated the forest (although maybe for different reasons).
I felt more present with them than I ever had.
Turns out, it wasn't about them understanding me. It was about me being brave enough to accept myself.
Maybe that's the secret of life?
Because just for a little background:
My parent is transgender and her partner is a lesbian.
They understand about feeling different.
So, being ourselves has many layers.
And they are all brave.
With love + magic, Anna
